ORIGIN DATA:

The Salò Citron owes its name to the Italian town of the same denomination, located on the shores of Lake Garda, in Lombardy, where there is evidence of its cultivation since the XV century, giving rise to an important liqueur industry.

TREE AND FRUIT DESCRIPTION:

The fruit is usually oval, and is characterized by the presence of a large apical mamelon surrounded by areola. Its rind, of yellow-greenish color, is sweet, thick and smooth to the touch. The albedo is not edible, it is flabby in the mouth. Its flesh is slightly acidic and not very juicy.

USES:

In the past, the Salò Citron was widely used by local companies for the production of citron chocolate and other sweets (Cedrinca) and for the production of soft drinks such as Cedral Tassoni, from the company of the same name created at the end of the 18th century. Nowadays, its main use is the candied rind.
