Origin data

Cultivated variety in Tuscany (Italy) as early as the 15th century. It is characterized by having two types of fruit, both of which have a skin marked by vertical stripes, between which "channels" are formed, hence its original name.

Tree and fruit description

Vigorous and productive tree. Lanceolate leaves of dark green color. Medium-sized fruits that exhibit two morphologies, oval and globular, both with a small apical nipple. The bark is generally very rough, marked by numerous vertical stripes that create channels between them. The fruits with a globular morphology have less rough bark. Bright yellow at maturity, although it may retain greenish hues. Edible albedo in the fruits with less ridged bark, where it is also thicker. Juicy, very acidic, and refreshing pulp. It contains few seeds.

Uses

It can be used for seasoning, both with the zest and with the juice. Its albedo, in the less striped fruits, can be used fresh or in preparations.
