Origin data

Eremorange is a natural hybrid between the Desert Australian Lime (previously known as Eremocitrus glauca) and the sweet orange. It was obtained and selected in Australia due to the high hybridization capacity of C. glauca. It is characterized by displaying its hybrid characteristics, both in its growth form and in the morphology and color of its leaves (glauca comes from the Latin glaucus and means light green), as well as in its fruits. Its fruits are among the first citrus to ripen, although, like the Desert Australian Lime, they remain on the tree for a very short time once mature.

Tree and fruit description

A vigorous and highly productive tree with an open habit and erect growth. The leaves are distinctly lanceolate, reminiscent of olive leaves, light green in color and with a short petiole. The vertical arrangement of the leaves is characteristic and inherited from C. glauca. The fruits are small, spherical with a thin, smooth, aromatic, and slightly bitter skin. They reach a soft orange-yellow color at the end of their ripening. Their essential oil glands are so prominent that the skin appears transparent. The pulp is granular and juicy, composed of small yellow spheres with a semi-sweet and aromatic flavor. It may contain some seeds.

Uses

Due to its unusual appearance, the plant has high ornamental value. The fruits are used for making jams. Its juice is a good accompaniment for meats and fish. At Todolí Citrus, whole fruits are preserved in syrup, resulting in an unusual but exquisite citrus dessert.
