The Bergamot Femminello has been cultivated for hundreds of years in Italy, specifically in the Calabria region. It is known for the high quality of its essential oils. For this reason, it was used as a parent in the creation of the Bergamot Fantastico. Like all bergamots, it is a natural hybrid between Bitter Orange and Lemon Tree, although its place of origin is unknown.
Tree and fruit description
Compact and productive tree, with dark lanceolate and highly aromatic leaves. Fruits of medium-small size, spherical in shape, sometimes pear-shaped, with a slightly flattened apex and a characteristic persistent style. Fine and smooth bark, very aromatic and bright yellow in maturity. Yellow pulp, sour and acidic in taste, moderately juicy. It has seeds.
Uses
Its main use is in the perfume industry, although it is also used to make jams or liqueurs. Its grated bark can flavor all kinds of dishes.
