Limequat (C. aurantifolia × Fortunella spp.) is a hybrid between the Mexican Lime and the Oval Kumquat created at the beginning of the 20th century in Florida (USA). Limequat trees are vigorous and hold a great ornamental value, while they were designed to transfer cold resistance to the Mexican Lime, which was accomplished thanks to adding the kumquat parentage.
Limequat fruits have a greenish-yellow color and are reminiscent of limes. As with most kumquats and their hybrids, they can be eaten as whole since, although their pulp is fairly acidic, the rind is sweet. The Limequat fruits have a high vitamin C content, and are used for the preparation of cocktails, pastries, sauces or marmalades.
