Origin data

The Citron is one of the few pure species among citrus fruits. It originated in India, at the foot of the Himalayas, and from there it spread, thanks to humans, westward to the Mediterranean, passing through the Arabian Peninsula. In addition to having great ornamental, medicinal, culinary, and industrial value, it is also very important for being the paternal progenitor of the current acidic citrus fruits, such as lemons and limes. This Common Citron is characterized by the morphology of its fruits, which is representative of the species.

Tree and fruit description

These are large fruits with elliptical or cylindrical morphology and a prominent apical nipple. The skin is rough and bulging, highly aromatic, and pale yellow when ripe. The albedo is thick and not edible in this case. The flesh is yellow and acidic. It does not contain seeds.

Uses

Both the peel and the juice are very interesting additions to any type of sauce.
