Origin data

The Tarocco Sciara does not have a clear origin. It seems to be the result of the selection of a late mutation of Tarocco that occurred in Sicily (Italy). It is characterized by producing large fruits among the Tarocco, with a very distinctive neck, sweet flavor, juiciness, and good persistence on the tree once ripe. It is one of the most popular Tarocco varieties in Italy.

Tree and fruit description

Tree of medium vigor, with rather vertical growth and high productivity. Fruits with predominantly ovoid morphology, of large size and generally with characteristic neck and basal crown. Slightly papillate bark, medium thickness and yellowish-orange color that may exhibit reddish pigmentation if climatic conditions are favorable. Peels very well. Melting pulp of intense orange color, which may show pigmentation depending on climatic conditions. Very juicy, with predominantly sweet flavor and high quality. Few or no seeds.

Uses

Popular cultivar for the high quality of its pulp and juice.
