Origin data
The Tarocco Rosso is a cultivar selected in Sicily (Italy) whose origin is not clearly known. It is a mutation of the Tarocco that imparts a marked pigmentation of anthocyanins to the flesh at the end of the fruit's ripening. The mutation was stabilized in 1987 at the Citrus Research Center, CREA, in Acireale (Sicily), and was marketed under the name Tarocco Rosso VCR.
Tree and fruit description
Tree of medium vigor and high productivity. Erect growth tendency. Dense foliage with broad leaves. Rounded fruit, medium-sized between Taroccos, with a good weight/size ratio. Medium-thickness rind, adhering to the pulp, slightly bulging and reaching a red-orange color at the end of ripening. Very juicy pulp, deep red in color at the end of ripening. Sweet and slightly fruity flavor. Seedless.
Uses
Mainly consumed fresh and used for making high-quality homemade juices. The juice is also used in marinades.
