Origin data

The hybrids of the Ota series were obtained within the program for the study of citrus pigmentation conducted by the Research Center for Citrus (CREA) in Acireale (Sicily, Italy) in 2004. They are the result of a hybridization between an Oroval Clementine and a Tarocco Orange, hence their name. This particular selection has no pigmentation, but it does have notable organoleptic characteristics.

Tree and fruit description

Tree of moderate vigor with small, lanceolate leaves, similar to those of Clementine. Fruits are small to medium-sized, spherical and flattened at both poles, with fine and smooth skin of intense orange color. At the apical region, they show a characteristic halo, with the stylar insertion area depressed and often a small navel. Juicy pulp, of intense orange color with clear iridescence in all segments. Its flavor is balanced, slightly spicy with a hint of mandarin. Its long-lasting presence on the palate is distinctive. It has seeds.

Uses

Its characteristics give it great value for fresh consumption.
