Origin data
The Oroblanco cultivar was obtained within the citrus breeding program carried out at the University of California (USA) in 1958, after crossing a seedless Pummelo and a tetraploid white-fleshed Grapefruit. Oroblanco was commercialized in 1980. It is characterized by its seedless fruits (being triploid) and its flavor, which has very little of the characteristic bitterness of grapefruit.
Tree and fruit description
Vigorous tree, large and with an open shape. Large, dark leaves. Medium-large fruit, with an oblate morphology and a flat base. Albedo thicker than in other grapefruits. Thin skin, yellow-green in maturity. Juicy pulp, sweet, slightly bitter, and with apparent juice vesicles. The albedo and the membranes separating the segments are bitter like in the pomelo. Pulp of excellent quality.
Uses
If consumed before ripeness, it maintains a very interesting acidity. After ripening, it is sweeter. Its main use is for fresh consumption.
