Origin data

The name of this sour lime (also known as limoncello from Napoli) refers to the place where it was possibly discovered and selected. It is characterized by the quality and quantity of its juice and by its greater resistance to cold compared to its sister, the Mexican lime. It was part of the Medici gardens in the 16th century.

Tree and fruit description

Medium-sized, slow-growing, spiny tree with a rounded shape. Leaves are lanceolate but wide, typical of lime, with serrated edges and aromatic. Small, globose or subglobose fruits, with a small apical nipple, surrounded by a faintly pronounced groove and persistent style. Very smooth and very thin bark, aromatic, adhering to the pulp and pale yellow in maturity. Very juicy, acidic, and sour pulp, with high-quality juice. Contains no seeds.

Uses

Perfect for adding a bittersweet touch to sorbets, cakes, or drinks. The zest enhances salads, desserts, soups, or sauces.
