Origin data

The Meyer Double-Blood Orange Lemon originated within the ornamental variety breeding program at the Agronomic Research Center of Acireale (Sicily, Italy). It is the result of a cross between a Meyer Lemon and a Double-Blood Orange (an Italian variety of sanguinelli). It is characterized by producing fruits with longitudinal red stripes (due to the presence of anthocyanins) on an orange background, which is why this variety is also known as Arcobal (rainbow).

Tree and fruit description

Bushy-looking tree, vigorous, productive, and compact in shape. Dark green, hard, oval, and slightly curled leaves. Slightly pigmented flowers. Round fruits, medium-sized with a slightly depressed apical area. Bark with an orange background and longitudinal red spots, aromatic. Juicy pulp, more or less pigmented depending on climatic conditions, its flavor combines sweetness with a fresh acidic touch and a fruity aroma due to the presence of anthocyanins.

Uses

It can be consumed fresh and used for seasoning and coloring sauces and juices.
