Origin data
The Tardivo di Ciaculli is a selection of Mediterranean Mandarin characterized by its late maturation and a lower presence of seeds compared to traditional Mediterranean Mandarin. It appears to be a spontaneous mutation that occurred on a Mediterranean-type mandarin (known as Avana in Italy) in the Ciaculli area, near Palermo (Italy), selected around 1940. Its cultivation is regulated by the Consorzio il Tardivo di Ciaculli. The differences between the fruit of Tardivo di Ciaculli and traditional Mediterranean mandarins are minimal, with the maturation period being the most significant discrepancy.
Tree and fruit description
Medium-sized tree, leafy and with a spherical tendency. Abundant, lanceolate, and aromatic leaves. Medium-small fruit, flattened at both poles, with a depressed apical area. Flesh of vibrant orange color, tender, juicy, with a sweet taste and pleasantly aromatic (distinctive). It has seeds.
