Origin:

Origin data

Despite its more popular name in the West (Rough Lemon), it is not a lemon tree but rather an acid mandarin resulting from the cross between an ancient mandarin and a citron. This hybrid originated naturally in northeastern India and is characterized by its resistance to the citrus tristeza virus (CTV), which has made it a widely used rootstock.

Tree and fruit description

Robust and large tree. The morphology of the fruits is very diverse, as they can be oblate, oval, spherical... but generally they have a crown neck and an apical nipple with a more or less sunken aureole. Rough, bulging, aromatic bark, with visible oil glands and a color that varies from green to orange, passing through lemon yellow and reaching bright orange. Acidic, moderately juicy, aromatic pulp. It has seeds.

Uses

It can be an interesting substitute for lemon, both for its juice and its aromatic peel.
