Varietal Group:
Lemons and their hybrids
Origin:
Italy
Availability:

Origin data
This variety of lemon, Femminello, gets its name from a characteristic of the tree, not the fruits. The leaves arch over the isolated fruits like a "hood," as if protecting them. Its commercial interest lies in its late ripening and resistance to wind.
Tree and fruit description
Vigorous tree with medium productivity. Large leaves with a tendency to curl. Large, ovoide-shaped fruits with a pronounced and generally displaced apical nipple in relation to the vertical axis; without an apparent neck, but with the base generally in a crown shape. Smooth bark, dark yellow in color and of medium thickness. Edible albedo, as it is somewhat tasteless, but improves when combined with a thin layer of bark. Pale yellow pulp, moderately juicy and acidic. It has no seeds, and the central axis is characteristically hollow.
Uses
It can be used for seasoning, both the peel and the juice. Its albedo can be used fresh or in preparations, although it is recommended to combine it with some peel to enhance the citrus flavor.
