Origin data
Faustrime is a hybrid that contains a mix of Citrus Caviar, Mexican Lime, and Kumquat. It appears to have been obtained through natural pollination of an Australian lime with a "limequat." It is characterized by producing fruit for most of the year.
Tree and fruit description
Vigorous bush, growing faster than Citrus Caviar, yet equally thorny and leafy. Small, slightly lanceolate leaves with serrated edges, rounded base, and tip. Fruits have an elongated cylindrical morphology, slightly curved, with apparent nipple and neck, and generally larger than those of Citrus Caviar. Smooth, thin bark, rich in essential oils and green in color, tending to yellow after reaching the optimal ripeness. Juicier pulp than that of Citrus Caviar, with oval juice vesicles that are not easily disaggregated; soft green in color and highly aromatic. Contains few or no seeds.
Uses
The plant has ornamental value. The aroma and flavor of the fruits feature a blend between Citrus Caviar and Mexican Lime. In cooking, it can be used as a substitute for both lime or lemon and the Caviar Citrus itself.
