The Cidro Amalphitanum gets its name from the municipality of Amalfi, in the Italian region of Campania. This area has a strong tradition of cultivating lemon trees and cidras.

Tree and fruit description

The fruit is medium-large in size, rounded or oval, and features a typical pointed nipple at the apical area. Its skin is yellow, shiny, smooth or only slightly rough. It is speckled with countless oil glands. Its albedo is edible, although not very thick. The flesh is abundant, with large juice vesicles like those of a pomelo, juicy and acidic. It contains some seeds.

Uses

It is a fruit valued for its essential oils, which are extracted for the production of perfumery and cosmetic products.
