Ancient variety, resulting from a spontaneous sectorial chimera that gives rise to some variegated leaves and provides a striped appearance to the fruits. It was found in the gardens of the Medici in the 16th century. At that time, it was also referred to as "Swiss orange," given the similarity of the yellow and orange stripes of the fruit to the pants of the Swiss Guard.

Uses
A highly valued variety from an ornamental standpoint. The fruits can be processed like those of the common bitter orange (jams, liquors…).
