Kumquat (Citrus margarita) originated in China and has been cultivated for centuries in Southeast Asia. In fact, in many countries of the region the Kumquat tree symbolises good luck. They are slow-growing and small trees, very productive and with a great ornamental tradition.
Its fruits are among the smallest of the citrus fruits, and are characterised by the fact that they can be eaten without peeling. The combination of a sweet rind and acid pulp makes the whole very characteristic and surprising. Kumquat fruits are used in marmalade and pastries. Near Miami (Florida, USA) the Kumquat Festival is held annually, where new recipes and uses of this particular citrus fruit are presented.
