Origin data

The Spinoso Clementine is the result of the selection of a spontaneous mutation from a Common Clementine, carried out in 1988 by Angelo Starrantino in the town of Metaponto, in the province of Matera, in southern Italy. Its main characteristic is that its ripening occurs a few weeks earlier than other clementines. In addition, it has small thorns on the more robust branches, which is where it gets its name.

Tree and fruit description

Tree of medium vigor and slightly upright growth habit; not very productive, but does not exhibit alternation. Leaves larger than other clementines. Fruits more flattened than in other clementines. Orange, smooth skin. Orange pulp with good juice content. No seeds if isolated. The fruits hold well on the tree after ripening.

Uses

Fresh consumption.
