Origin data

The cidra lemon tree from Naples has an unknown origin. Its name seems to indicate that it is a cultivar selected in Naples (Italy), but there is no documentation regarding this.

Tree and fruit description

Open-growing tree with long shoots, featuring large leaves for an acid mandarin. Lanceolate leaves with an obovate appearance. Flower buds and young shoots are purple. Reflowering variety that produces fruits at different stages of development for much of the year. Fruits of various sizes, generally oval in shape, but can also be spherical or globular. Apical navel occasionally present, as well as the characteristic persistent style. Thin bark, with a faint aroma and slightly swollen, which may or may not form grooves. Edible albedo. Pale yellow pulp, almost grainy, somewhat bland but with a presence of acid. Few or no seeds.

Uses

Both its rind, grated, and its pulp can be used to season rice dishes, sauces, or desserts. The albedo can be consumed fresh, either alone or with a bit of pulp.
