The Monachello variety is characterized by its robustness, being very resistant to diseases. It is typical of Sicily (Italy), where it is cultivated in areas affected by the mal secco disease that impacts less resistant lemon trees.

Tree and fruit description

Tree with low vigor, slow growth, and a rounded habit with drooping branches. Large and abundant leaves, dense foliage. Medium-sized fruit, elliptical in shape, with an apical nipple and a barely noticeable basal neck. Yellow bark, somewhat bulging, hinting at vertical ribs, with a mild aroma but containing large embedded oil glands. Edible albedo, of medium thickness, flavorful, as it contains fine branches from the oil glands of the bark. Pale yellow pulp, juicy and acidic. Seedless.

Uses

It can be used for seasoning, both with the peel and with the juice. Its albedo can be used fresh or in preparations like puree, mousse...
