Origin data
The Marsh Pink is the result of a selected mutation in 1913 in Oneco, Florida, USA, from a Marsh grapefruit tree. This cultivar is characterized by the pink pigmentation of its pulp, due to the presence of lycopene, and its ability to hold ripe fruit on the tree for a long time. The estate where S.A. Collins discovered this variety belonged to W.B. Thompson, which is why it is also known as Thompson Grapefruit.
Tree and fruit description
Open-growing tree with a spherical tendency, vigorous and productive. Large, dark leaves. Medium to large size fruit, with a slightly flattened spherical morphology. Thin, smooth skin that can reach a yellow-orange color at the end of ripeness. Flesh is pink, with intensity depending on both the cold and the degree of maturity. Juicy and with a flavor that combines the typical bitterness of grapefruit with a pleasant level of sweetness. Seedless.
Uses
It is used both for fresh consumption and for juice production, even on an industrial scale.
