Variety originating from the Amalfi Coast (Italy), where it is cultivated for the high quality of its juice and essential oils. The Amalfi Long Lemon (Sfusato) gets its name from the elongated shape of its fruits, in contrast to the other protected variety from the area, the Sorrento Oval. It is used to prepare the drink known as limoncello.

Tree and fruit description

Vigorous tree with a rounded growth tendency and dense foliage. Large, opposite leaves with short internodes. Medium-large fruits, oval and elongated in shape, with a nipple at the apical zone and a short neck with grooves. The bark is slightly rough, thick, very aromatic, and lemon-yellow when mature. Juicy, very acidic, and refreshing pulp. It has seeds.

Uses

As with other Amalfi lemons, various dishes are prepared using their different parts. There is a traditional lemon salad made with pieces of lemon, garlic, oil, pepper, salt, and mint. Its rind, which is very rich in essential oils, is used for the production of liqueurs and lemon creams. Its juice is used as a seasoning for numerous dishes.
