Origin data
The Clemendor Mandarin is the result of the selection of a spontaneous mutation that occurred in the Mediterranean Mandarin. It was apparently discovered in the Paysandú department (Uruguay), most likely because it does not produce seeds in the absence of cross-pollination, a highly desirable trait in Mediterranean mandarins.
Tree and fruit description
Medium-sized tree with an open growth habit and a somewhat flattened-spherical tendency. Leaves are smooth, distinctly lanceolate, rather small, and dark green in color. Flowers are small, white, and aromatic. Fruit is small to medium-sized, spherical, and flattened at both poles. The bark is slightly rough to the touch due to the presence of prominent oil glands, easy to peel, and aromatic, reaching a yellow-orange color at maturity. The flesh is light orange, juicy, and sweet, with the typical aroma of Mediterranean mandarins. In addition to being seedless, it remains better on the tree and has better post-harvest behavior than the original Mediterranean mandarin.
Uses
