Chimera orange citrus

Varietal Group:

Lemons and their hybrids

Origin:

Italy

Availability:

October - May

Origin data

This hybrid variety is the result of a chimera, a natural mutation that can affect different aspects of the plant. In this case, it is manifested in both the leaves and the fruits.

Tree and fruit description

Vigorous tree, well-sized and productive. Leaves are typically lanceolate but have unusually serrated edges. It bears fruits with a varied appearance, generally medium-sized and ovoid in shape, with an apical nipple and a wide, pronounced neck. The bark is thin, very rough, orange-yellow in color and has a floral aroma. The edible albedo has hints of essential oils. The flesh is orange, acidic, somewhat bitter, and juicy. It has seeds.

Uses

In gastronomy, both its albedo, which contains interesting citrus nuances, and its pulp, which shows an interesting contrast between its appearance and its flavor, can be used.
