The Chandler cultivar is the result of a breeding program carried out in California (USA), involving the controlled hybridization of two Thai pomelos, the Siamese (non-acidic pomelo) and the Siamese Pink (acidic pigmented pomelo). Its commercialization began in 1961.

Tree and fruit description

Vigorous and productive tree, leafy and with an open canopy. Round fruit, medium-sized among the grapefruits (average weight around 1 kg). Smooth, thin skin, yellow when ripe. Thick, pink albedo. Flesh is between pink and red, depending on growing conditions, not very juicy, sweeter than other grapefruits, more acidic and less bitter. The juice vesicles are fine and tender. It has numerous seeds, absent without cross-pollination.

Uses

Its consumption fresh includes combination in salads, greens, or fruits.
