Origin data

Variety characterized by the prominent ridges or longitudinal channels present in the bark of its fruits (canaliculata). Its origin is unknown, although it is possible that it comes from Asia.

Tree and fruit description

Vigorous tree with large leaves and also large, highly aromatic white flowers. Fruits of small to medium size and slightly flattened. Rough, ribbed bark with yellowish-green hues during ripening. Semi-thick, spongy albedo with a bitter taste. Juicy pulp, sour, and orange-yellow in color. Its juice is among the least unpleasant of the bitter oranges with acid.

Uses

The fruits remain on the tree for a long time, which makes them a symbol of longevity in Japan, where they are used candied or to make jams, as well as for decoration in the traditional Japanese New Year celebration. Their juice can be used for marinating and seasoning. A variety with high ornamental value.
