Pummelos and their hybrids
Origin:
India
Availability:

Origin data
Variety that, despite its name, appears to be native to India. When it was introduced to the U.S., it did so under the name "Baboon Lemon." Its most notable characteristic is the fragrance of its fruits, a result of its complex genetic composition (50% Pummelo, 38% citron, and 12% papeda), so it is possible that it is a hybrid between a Pummelo and a lime.
Tree and fruit description
Vigorous tree with a tendency towards an open habit. Leafy, with large dark leaves. Medium-large sized fruits and oval shape, with a persistent style. Thick, smooth bark with sunk oil glands and bright yellow color. Very aromatic, with soapy fragrances, similar to bergamot. Pale, acidic, fragrant pulp, moderately juicy. It has numerous seeds.
Uses
Its rind, grated or whole, adds a characteristic citrus aroma to food and drinks. The juice is an interesting alternative for seasoning soups and salads.
