Variety of bitter orange characteristic of the Gargano region (Italy), the area known as "the spur of Italy." This traditional cultivation area is calcareous and rugged, with a climate that is not excessively warm, allowing for the late ripening of this variety, starting from April and being harvestable until August. Under the cultivation conditions of Todolí Citrus, it ripens by the end of February. It belongs to the group of bittersweet oranges, similar to the first bitter oranges that arrived in Europe.
Tree and fruit description
Medium-sized, spherical, and dense fruits with good weight. Medium-thick, rough skin, yellow-orange in maturity, with a very distinctive aroma. Juicy pulp with a good sweet-and-sour flavor, characteristic and distinct from other bitter oranges.
Uses
It can be consumed fresh, in slices or segments, in salads or as a side dish. Its juice is also valued.
