Origin data

The Cidro Aurantiata is an ancient variety, as it was already present in the gardens of the Medici in the 16th century, undoubtedly due to the beauty of its fruits. It gets its name from the color that the rind of the ripe fruit acquires, which suggests that it could be a hybrid variety.

Tree and fruit description

Very productive tree. Fruits of medium size among the citrus, with an oval shape, flat base, and conical apex. The bark, thick and very rough, reaches an intense orange color when mature. Its albedo is inedible, being of medium thickness. The flesh is orange and moderately juicy. Its juice is complex, acidic, with a bitter point and slightly sweet.

Uses

Since it is likely a hybrid with bitter orange, its uses may be similar to this: making jams and bitters. The bizarre beauty of its fruits gives it high ornamental value.
