The Amalfi Coast is located south of Naples (Italy) and has a very interesting southwest-northeast orientation for citrus cultivation. In this region, there is a geographic indication of origin (PGI) for some of its lemons, and it is where the beverage known as limoncello is produced. The name of this cultivar derives from the thickness of its albedo (pane means bread in Italian).
Tree and fruit description
Moderately vigorous tree, with a tendency to form a rounded crown, moderately productive. Dense foliage of dark, rounded leaves at the base. Medium to large fruits, ellipsoidal in shape, with a pronounced apical nipple and crown-like neck. Not very thick, grainy bark, soft yellow in color when ripe and aromatic. Edible albedo, moderately thick. Juicy pulp, very acidic, with a hollow central axis. Few or no seeds.
Uses
It can be used for seasoning, both with the zest and with the juice. Its albedo can be used fresh, in salads or in preparations like puree, mousse...
