Josep A. Gisbert Santonja, is an archaeologist, has been director of the Museu Arqueològic de Dénia and head of the Municipal Archaeological Service.

Josep Antoni Gisbert Santonja (Oliva, 1959) studied at the University of Valencia, beginning his work as an archaeologist in 1981 and, since 1982, he has been established as a municipal archaeologist in the City Council of Denia.

Gisbert was Head of the Municipal Archaeology Service, between 1987 and 2022, being manager at that stage of the birth and praxis of urban archeology in Denia, which has distilled a significant advance in the knowledge of the topography, urban planning, architecture and archaeological record of the ancient city: Dianium, Roman Augustan municipality, with deep roots in the Colonizations, and Medina Daniya, onfalo of a powerful Taifa kingdom of Mediterranean dimension.

From the museums and from the studies derived from the urban archaeology of Denia and various sites in the territory creates a dense program of dissemination of heritage that for decades enjoys a remarkable public acceptance.

His contribution to Todolí Citrus Fundació as an expert in heritage and museology, as well as a cultural manager, is fundamental in the exploration and dissemination of the synergies between archaeology, landscape and territory.
