Origin data

This hybrid between the Ichang Papeda and the Sweet Orange has an unknown origin. The characteristics of the fruit, especially the essential oils of its rind and the flavor of its juice, are reminiscent of Yuzu, hence its name.

Tree and fruit description

Lush tree with predominantly erect growth, but with a tendency to form a spherical tree. It has numerous thorns. Large, lanceolate leaves with a marked winged petiole. Fruits larger than those of yuzu and with ovoid morphology, resembling more those of the sweet orange than those of the Ichang papeda. They may present an apical nipple, and the basal neck can be somewhat prominent, but generally it is recessed. Aromatic, thick, semi-rough bark that reaches a yellow-orange color at maturity. Pale yellow pulp, very juicy and aromatic, with bitter and acidic, fresh juice. It has numerous monoembryonic seeds.

Uses

Once ripe, the fruit does not hold well on the tree. Both its grated rind and its juice can be used to flavor sauces, desserts, or beverages.
