The Timor Pummelo gets its name from the main island of the Lesser Sunda Islands archipelago (Indonesia). It is characterized by producing large fruits that are not too heavy and because a minimal introgression of Cedro genes has been detected in this variety.
Tree and fruit description
Open-grown tree, not very leafy but productive. Large or very large leaves, with winged petioles and dark green color. Large fruits, with variable morphology, ranging from spherical to flattened or pear-shaped. The apical insertion zone is characteristically sunken. Very thin bark, bright yellow at the end of maturity, slightly pitted. Thick and spongy albedo, which acquires a rosy hue when the fruit is opened. Pink pulp, with pigmentation level highly dependent on temperature. Pigmentation mainly around the septa and axis. Slightly acidic juice, with bitter notes. Contains seeds.
Uses
It can be used to make juices or for fresh consumption, directly or in green or fruit salads.
