Origin data
The Tangor Ortanique is probably the result of a natural hybridization between an Orange tree and a Mandarin tree, selected in Jamaica around 1920. It arrived in North America in the late 1940s, where it gradually gained popularity, and it wasn't until 1971 that it reached Spain, spreading its cultivation throughout the Mediterranean. It is characterized by its ability to hold the fruit well on the tree after maturity and for its good post-harvest behavior.
Tree and fruit description
Vigorous tree with an open and drooping posture. Very leafy, with medium-sized leaves. Fruit larger than a mandarin, with an ovoid shape, a basal neck, and a flat apical area. Granular, aromatic bark that turns bright orange at maturity. Peels with some difficulty. Orange, juicy pulp, well-balanced between total acids and sugar. May contain seeds.
Uses
Its main use is the fresh consumer market.
