Origin data
This interesting variety of lemon has an unknown origin and exhibits some characteristics of citron alongside those of the lemon tree. It is characterized by the rough and aromatic rind of its fruits. It should not be confused with the Jambhiri, also known as Rough Lemon.
Tree and fruit description
Vigorous tree with an open and vertical habit, very productive. Large leaves with rounded tips, dark in color. Fruits are dull yellow with greenish hues even at maturity. Fruits have very variable shapes, tending to be oval, and may or may not have a small apical nipple, while their base is flat with the insertion point sunken into an irregular crown. Extremely rough and highly aromatic bark, with a soapy, complex, and persistent fragrance. Thick albedo, not very pleasant due to the inclusion of bitter essential oils from the bark. Pale flesh, greenish at the beginning of ripening, moderately juicy and very acidic, somewhat bitter. Seedless.
Uses
Among its uses, the zest of the rind stands out, notable for its aroma and flavor. The juice combines acidity and bitterness beyond that of the typical table lemon.
