Origin data
The Rangpur lime is not actually a lime, but an acidic mandarin resulting from the crossbreeding of an ancient mandarin and a citron. This event must have occurred in the same center of origin of citrus, as it seems common to find varieties of Citrus limonia in India, China, or Myanmar. While the morphology of the leaves shows its hybrid character, the fruits resemble a mandarin. There are numerous varieties of C. limonia, and most of them retain the name Rangpur.
Tree and fruit description
Compact tree with dense, dark foliage. Fruits of variable size and morphology, medium to large, preferably flattened with a depressed apical area. It may have a persistent style. Bark ranges from slightly pitted to swollen, fine and aromatic, reaching a bright orange color. Juicy pulp, orange in color, with well-defined septa. Juice with a mild acidity, with a hint of bitterness that gives it complexity and aroma. It has some seeds.
Uses
The rind of the green fruit can be used as a substitute for lemon or lime, as well as the juice of the ripe fruit. It is used to flavor liqueurs and other industrial preparations.
