Origin data
The Montignoso Cider appears to be a local Italian selection, originating from the Tuscany region. It is characterized by producing small-sized fruits among the ciders.
Tree and fruit description
The fruits are spherical, with flattened poles, and they present a characteristic areole in the apical area. The style usually remains anchored in the areolar zone. Likewise, it can produce extremely rough and bizarre fruits, very different from the described type. Normally, its rind is slightly rough and has a yellow-orange tone when ripe. The rind is bitter and its albedo is inedible. The pulp is moderately juicy and acidic.
Uses
Although it is not suitable for fresh consumption, it is used to make jams, preserves, candies, or syrup. Its juice can be a substitute for lemon in both sweet and savory dishes.
