Vicente Todolí

Vicente Todolí’s career in the visual arts spans more than 30 years, and includes positions as Head of Conservation (1986-88) and artistic director of IVAM (Valencian Institute of Modern Art, 1988-1996), before joining the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art as its founding director in 1996 until 2002. In 2002 he was appointed director of Tate Modern, ending in June 2010. In May 2012, Vicent Todolí was appointed artistic director of the Pirelli HangarBicocca Foundation, where he continues to work today, being responsible for the program.
He was born in Palmera (Valencia) in 1958. He holds a degree in Geography and History, specializing in Art History, from the University of Valencia and completed postgraduate studies in art history as a Fulbright Scholar at Yale University and New York University. He was a Helena Rubinstein Fellow in the International Study Program (ISP) at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York in 1984-85.
He currently advises several museums and foundations, such as the Botín Foundation in Santander, where he holds the position of president of the Plastic Arts Advisory Commission. In addition, he works as sole advisor to the INELCOM collection in Madrid.
He is a Knight of Arts and Letters, received the Order of Santiago da Espada in Portugal in 2003, and was named Doctor Honoris Causa by the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 2011.
