Alessandra Spranzi (Milán, 1962)

Lives and works in Milan.

Alessandra Spranzi’s work reveals a penchant for humble materials, everyday situations, neglected and obsolete objects, manual labour and the gestures that accompany them.

Through these tools and subjects, through appropriations and even the slightest manipulations, the artist ceaselessly questions the mystery of existence and the fundamental forces that determine our destiny as well as that of the objects and environments that surround us.

Her artistic practice is linked to photography, the printed image, collage, drawing and video.

Since 1992, her works have been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions at a number of galleries, including P420 in Bologna, the Galleria d’Arte Nazionale in Rome, the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, the Monica De Cardenas Gallery in Zuoz, Arcade in London, the Centre National de la Photographie in Île-de-France, and Bomba Gens in Valencia, MAMbo in Bologna, GAMEC in Bergamo, the Marino Marini Museum in Florence, the Emi Fontana Gallery in Milan, the Pecci Museum in Prato and Le Magasin in Grenoble.

She is the author of several publications, including Eggs, Cutlery and Other Objects (a+m bookstore, 2018), At the Same Time (Humboldt Books, 2015), For Sale (CCRZ Edizioni, 2013), Cose che accadono (Edizioni Fotografia Italiana, 2005), La donna barbuta (Galleria Emi Fontana, 2000), Tornando a casa (a+m bookstore, 1997), La donna barbuta, Quando la terra si disfa (Galleria Emi Fontana, Milán, 2002), Tecnica senza vocabolario (A+M Bookstore Edizioni, Milán, 2023).

In 2025 she published La dimensione delle cose, published by Viaindustriae, edited by Ilaria Gianni, designed by Filippo Nostri, with the support of the Italian Council.
