Kiyomi is a hybrid of Miyagawa satsuma and Trovita sweet orange developed in Okitsu (Japan). Its name comes from a lagoon near its place of origin. It is characterized by the size of its fruits and its late maturation. Additionally, it has been used as a parent to obtain other important Japanese varieties.

Tree and fruit description

Tree with an open stature and dense foliage that forms a rounded crown. Lanceolate leaves of medium size. Round or slightly pear-shaped fruits, large as an orange. Relatively thick bark, easy to peel, yellow-orange in color; orange when fully ripe. Tender, sweet, juicy pulp, orange in color and mild in flavor. It does not produce seeds if grown in isolation.

Uses

The fruit combines the flavor of a satsuma and the aroma of an orange. It has low levels of acidity. It can be consumed fresh, in fruit or vegetable salads. The juice is aromatic and of high quality.
