Origin data

The Pineapple orange is an old variety that belongs to the mid-season White Orange group. It originated from the germination of a seed from an indeterminate variety planted around 1860 in Sparr (Florida, USA). Its name comes from the gentle aroma it emits and it gained popularity in Florida during the 19th century, thanks to the intense color of its peel and its balanced flavor. Additionally, it was crucial as a replanting variety after the frosts of 1895 on the east coast of the USA.

Tree and fruit description

Moderately vigorous tree but very productive, with a tendency to form a rounded canopy. Leaves are distinctly lanceolate for an orange tree of the Blancas group. It is considered more sensitive to cold than other orange trees in its group. Medium-sized fruit, spherical in shape, occasionally cylindrical, with smooth skin of bright orange color. The apical zone is slightly depressed. Juicy pulp, very attractive orange color, with small juice vesicles that meld in the mouth, unlike the separating septa of the segments, which are persistent. Juice of high quality, with a fresh and balanced flavor, in which a mild acidic touch predominates. It has seeds.

Uses

Given the quality of its juice, it is considered a very good mid-season orange for industrial juice production.
