Varietal Group:

Kumquats and their hybrids

Origin:

Unknown

Availability:

January - April

Origin data

Kumquat of unknown origin resulting from a hybridization between the oval kumquat (Nagami) and a clementine.

Tree and fruit description

Tree with a shrub-like appearance and more similar in stature to a kumquat than to a mandarin. Very productive, like kumquats. Leaf distinctly lanceolate, similar to that of a clementine but smaller. Oval fruit, with a flattened apical area and a size that practically doubles that of the Nagami kumquat. Intense orange color when ripe, its peel is sweet-spicy and finely textured. Fine albedo typical of these hybrids. Juicy and acidic pulp, with a soft orange color. Contains seeds.

Uses

Ornamental plant of high value. The fruit is similar to that of the oval kumquat, but larger and significantly juicier, so it can be used like the latter, and if eaten whole, it is a perfectly sweet-and-sour bite. They can be used interchangeably in sweet or savory preparations.
