Its name refers to the small protrusions that often appear on the bark of its fruits, resembling small horns. Its origin is unknown, but it was already described by botanical authors in the 17th century.
Tree and fruit description
Medium-sized tree with dense foliage, very productive. Leaves are dark green with winged petioles. White, highly fragrant flowers. Large, spherical or pear-shaped fruits, slightly flattened. Rough bark, reddish when mature, and often exhibits the characteristic protuberances that give it its name. Flesh has a sour-bitter taste.
Uses
Its fruits are used to make high-quality jams and excellent desserts. Ornamental value.
