Todolí Citrus Fundació, will host “Magiæ Naturalis: Cine de vanguardia en el jardín II”, a film selection curated by programmer Andrea Franco and coordinated by Esti Taboada. On 22 and 23 September at 7:30pm the show, divided into two sessions, will be presented, featuring the works of artists Ernesto Baca, Larissa Fan, Otar Iosseliani, Azucena Losana, Jessica Sarah Rinland, Jayne Parker, Charlotte Pryce, Anna Lucas, Claudio Caldini, Wilhelm Pfeffer, Shireen Seno, John Smith & Ian Bourn, Pablo Diserens, Unidad de Montaje Dialéctico, Derrick Schultz, Anne-Charlotte Finel and Tomonari Nishikawa.

The essay on the wonders of nature, De la Magia Naturalis (Magiæ Naturalis), published in 1558 by the scientist and alchemist Giambattista Della Porta, inspires the second edition of this avant-garde film series at the Bartolí botanical garden (Carrer l’Esglesia, 28 – 46714 Palmera). The programme consists of two 60-minute sessions, made up of films from 11 different countries, all of them handmade, mostly in analogue formats, and where botany will shine with a particular light among the garden’s vegetation.

The first session, to be screened on the 22nd, offers a journey through the world of plants, a tribute to flowers and trees, gardens and botany. Cinema that reminds us that images and plants share the same photochemical nature. With works by Ernesto Baca, Larissa Fan, Otar Iosseliani, Azucena Losana, Jessica Sarah Rinland, Jayne Parker, Charlotte Pryce, Anna Lucas and Claudio Caldini. On the 23rd, the second session will explore the relationship between civilisation and nature. An itinerary that moves between the real and the artificial, between the true and the false, between the organic and the chemical. Composed of works by Wilhelm Pfeffer, Shireen Seno, John Smith & Ian Bourn, Pablo Diserens, Unidad de Montaje Dialéctico, Derrick Schultz, Anne-Charlotte Finel and Tomonari Nishikawa.

“Magiæ Naturalis: Cine de vanguardia en el jardín II” is curated by Andrea Franco, film and visual arts programmer. The curator of the exhibition “Magiæ Naturalis” regularly collaborates with festivals, museums, film libraries, art centres and digital platforms in the management and development of exhibitions and retrospectives, including those devoted to Gordon Matta-Clark; Jonas Mekas; Jeannette Muñoz; Camilo Restrepo & L’Abominable; and the film exhibition of the 11th Ibero-American Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism. She is also a member of the programming team of the Gijón International Film Festival, and of Márgenes, Madrid International Film Festival, and is the author of the book Iberoamérica Urbana. Itinerarios por un cine desencantado, the result of her doctoral thesis on film, city and urban space.
