Antoni Miralda, (Terrassa, 1942)

Multidisciplinary artist living and working between Barcelona and Miami.

Since the late 1960s, Miralda has developed an artistic practice that explores the relationships between art, gastronomy, ritual, communication and social participation. Through installations, performances, public interventions, photography, drawing and large-scale collaborative projects, his work investigates the cultural and symbolic value of food and the customs associated with eating.

Among his most notable projects are Honeymoon Project (1986–1992), a symbolic union between the Statue of Liberty in New York and the Columbus Monument in Barcelona; Wheat & Steak (1981), a reflection on systems of food production and consumption; and Santa Comida, an extensive artistic investigation into the ritual and cultural dimensions of food.

His work is held in leading public and private collections, including the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the MACBA Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
