PRESENTATION

Todolí Citrus Fundació de la Comunitat Valenciana is a non-profit organization created for the study and spreading of Citrus and citriculture. It was founded with a socio-cultural objective, at the service of all sectors of society interested in the knowledge of this crop.

The Foundation is located in the Bartolí section of the town of Palmera (la Safor county), in an area of more than 45,000 m2 with an ideal microclimate for the cultivation of citrus fruits on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

The Foundation’s objectives are to establish its own citrus collection, which acts as a nucleus for research, dissemination and education in agricultural, environmental, historical, culinary and industrial topics. All of this is based on the great genetic variability of this species, which the Foundation aims to conserve and enhance. The Todolí Citrus Fundació collection currently has more than 400 citrus varieties.

At its headquarters, the Foundation also has a Citrus Classroom, a specialized Library and a Laboratory dedicated to gastronomy and essential oils research, all of which are open to guided tours.

MISSION

A.- To contribute to the identification and establishment of collections of old, current, ornamental, culinary and aromatic varieties of citrus groups identified as sour, white, sanguine, navel, satsumas, clementines, grapefruits, lemons, citrons, bergamots, limettas, papedas, fortunellas, poncirus, microcitrus, lumias, myrtifolias, intraspecific and interspecific hybrids and rootstocks.

B.- To act as a forum for research, development and dissemination of information about citrus groups and their collections.

C.- To contribute to its promotion and conservation through the creation of a Citrus Botanical Garden to help in the promotion of education and public awareness in its scientific, cultural, historical, social, environmental, economic and sociological aspects.

D.- From the traditional agrarian citrus culture, to promote environmental activities and environmental education among the young people of the Valencian Community.

E.- To promote values of sustainable cultivation systems and respectful with the environment.

F.- To collaborate with as many individuals or legal entities, public or private, national or international organizations and institutions that act in line with the aims of the Foundation or have the same or similar objectives, which whom the Foundation may sign agreements, partnerships or other instruments of cooperation.

ACTIVITIES

a) Contribute to the identification and establishment of collections of old, current, ornamental, culinary and aromatic varieties of the citrus groups identified as sour, white, sanguine, navel, satsumas, clementines, grapefruits, lemons, citrons, bergamots, limettas, papedas, fortunellas, poncirus, microcitrus, lumias, myrtifolias, intraspecific and interspecific hybrids and rootstocks.

b) To prepare facilities that allow the cultivation of old, current, ornamental, culinary and aromatic varieties of the citrus groups identified as sour, white, sanguine, navel, satsumas, clementines, grapefruits, lemons, citrons, bergamots, limettas, papedas, fortunellas, poncirus, microcitrus, lumias, myrtifolias, intraspecific and interspecific hybrids and rootstocks, and that involve the establishment of a CITRUS FRUIT BOTANICAL GARDEN.

c) Promote dissemination, training and educational measures for the knowledge of citrus collections, through the creation of a CITRICULTURE CLASSROOM, a CITRUS BOTANICAL GARDEN, and a CITRUS BOTANICAL GARDEN.
of CITRICULTURE, in which projections on the vegetative cycle of the varieties, conferences on the varietal characteristics and their aptitudes are developed, aimed at students from different educational levels such as schools, institutes or university centers and the interested public.

d) Organization of GUIDED TOURS for the knowledge of the listed varietal collections and establishment of a specific LIBRARY of informative material related to citriculture.

e) Conducting studies of physiology and phenology of the established collections, through collaboration with institutes and universities on the adaptation of the established species to our climate.

f) The preparation and celebration of events that recognize and highlight the institutions and associations with greater prominence in the promotion of Valencian citriculture.

g) The acquisition, obtaining, management or exploitation by any title of movable or immovable property of any nature for the development of the foundational purposes.

h) The obtaining and concession of material and economic resources of all kinds for the financing and development of the activities related to the foundational purposes.

i) The publication of printed or audiovisual material that presents to society, for its knowledge and promotion, the activities and current situation of citrus cultivation.

j) The preparation and teaching of monographic training courses on the subjects that constitute the specific purposes of the Foundation.

k) The creation, conservation and promotion of a historical archive of citrus cultivation in general, with special attention to citrus cultivation in the Valencian Community.

l) The promotion and organization of congresses, seminars, exhibitions, colloquiums, conferences and similar events of a fundamentally civic, cultural and environmental nature.

m) The cooperation, either material or intellectual, in the accomplishment and spreading of works, studies, investigations and works of any nature that the Patronage considers of interest, on the history, the present situation and the projections of future of the culture of citrus fruits, especially in the scope of the Valencian Community.

n) Collaboration with third parties, individuals or legal persons, institutions or organizations, to promote the specific purposes of the Foundation or any activity that, approved by the Board of Trustees, serves to develop the foundational purposes.
