ORIGIN DATA:
The origin of the Ovaletto Grapefruit is not well defined. It is supposed to be a hybrid between a Grapefruit and an Oval type Sweet Orange, supposedly generated in Italy. This hybrid is characterized by producing high quality fruits that combine the characteristics of its proposed parents.
TREE AND FRUIT DESCRIPTION:
Attractive, leafy, spherical, vigorous and productive tree. It has no thorns. Dark, rounded leaves with stretched apex and winged petiole. The fruit is oval in shape, with a flat apical area and slightly sunken stylar insertion. Medium size among grapefruits, larger than Navel oranges. Smooth but finely pebbled rind, of orange color and with sweet orange aroma. Orange flesh, melting, very juicy, acidic and a fresh flavor, with a hint of the typical grapefruit bitterness. The septa are persistent, more similar to those of the grapefruit than the sweet orange. It has no seeds.
USES:
Interesting hybrid for the preparation of juices and alcoholic combinations.
