ORIGIN DATA:

Canarone is a hybrid of Lemon and Citron selected in Italy around the 16th century. Its name may derive from Canaro, the ancient name of the Riviera Cannero, near Lake Maggiore (Italy), an area where it was probably cultivated centuries ago.

 

TREE AND FRUIT DESCRIPTION:

The fruit is rounded, with a flattened basal area, and might show a mamelon or an aureole at the apical side. Its rind is thick, very rough when green; rough and more wavy when ripe. The ripen fruit reaches an intense yellow color.

 

USES:

The albedo is not edible, although it can be processed since it holds a characteristic citrus flavor. Its pulp is juicy and acidic, reminiscent of the lemon, which can replace as a condiment. The fruit is used for making jams, jellies, sweets, syrups …
